Illegal operations across China, Cambodia, Vietnam and Myanmar generated turnover of US$1.75 billion

Police units from four different Asian countries – China, Cambodia, Vietnam and Myanmar – have collaborated in a two year international investigation which culminated this week in the announcement that a major online gambling ring had been taken down.

Official spokesmen from the Public Security Bureau of Jingzhou City said Thursday that the ring generated around 11 billion yuan (US$ 1.75 billion) in turnover, and involved over 500 people.

To date, police investigators have recovered over 32 million yuan and arrested 37 suspects, the publication China Daily reported. Three of those arrested were picked up in Vietnam and handed over to the Chinese authorities.

With a server installed in Cambodia, the gambling ring formed a nationwide gambling network with 120 agents, according to the preliminary investigation.
