ECOGRA ISSUES PLAYER PROTECTION ADVISORY ON CEREUS PROBLEMS

 5/12/10 – A second advisory to players regarding the Cereus Poker Network encryption flaw  has been issued by a third party organisation.
 
Following yesterday’s warning by the Kahnawake Gaming Commission, the independent player protection and standards body ECOGRA has advised players of the flaw and detailed counter-measures deployed to date by Cereus management.
 
The short term fix appears to be a new client encryption that has addressed the flaw identified by poker information portal Poker Table Ratings late last week.
 
The ECOGRA advisory notes: “In concert with the Kahnawake Gaming Commission, ECOGRA is currently monitoring this situation as Tokwiro management moves quickly to rectify the flaw and implement more stringent security measures going forward.
 
“Tokwiro expects the implementation of the Open SSL standard to be live at the Cereus network shortly.
 
“Based on information available to ECOGRA at this time, it appears unlikely that player gaming data has actually been compromised.
 
“ECOGRA will issue a further update on the situation as soon as this is available.”
