Canadian wins the second Punta Cana Poker Classic

In its second outing the Punta Cana Poker Classic has been won for the second time by a Canadian player, Demo Kirlopoulos.

Applauded by fellow Canadian Peter Cross, who won the event at its inaugural run last year, Kirlopoulos beat US opponent Evan Mauer in the almost six hour heads up to take home the first prize of $136,949.

Mauer delivered a noteworthy performance; entering the competition after winning his seat in a $35 online promotion, the American outlasted a field of 413 to make it to the heads up with Kirlopoulos, giving the Canadian a good run for his money and earning himself the runner up prize of $82,791.

The final table for the event, which was held at the Punta Cana Hard Rock Hotel in the Dominican Republic, consisted of: Jose de le Guardia, Engelberth Varela, Carlos Sobenes, William Wellman, Jose Barria, Demo Kilopoulos, Greg Bastin (who finished third), Evan Mauer and Jessica Bedoya.

The 5 day Texas Hold’em poker event had a guaranteed prize pool of $500,000 and concluded this weekend.
