Friday, May 20, 2016 : E-GAMES TIMED TO COINCIDE WITH RIO OLYMPICS
 
International eGames Committee commits to 15 and 16 August for Rio competitions.
 
E-gaming competitions will be taking place in Rio in the same timeframe as the Olympics following a firm commitment to the dates of 15 and 16 August 2016 announced Thursday by the International eGame Committee.
 
The venue for the action, which is expected to attract e-gaming fans and players from a wide range of countries, will be British House, Parque Lage in Rio, And for those that cannot be physically present, the events will be streamed live for maximum interactivity and possibly televised as well.
 
Conrad Bird, a director of the Great Britain Campaign said: “British House is the UK’s home away from home at Rio 2016, and we are delighted to be hosting the inaugural eGames as one of our exciting events.”
 
He was joined by UK Culture Minister Ed Vaizey, who commented: “The UK’s video game industry is world class, a result of the incredible pool of talent and innovation that exists within the sector. I’m delighted that the eGames event will be held at British House at a time when the world’s eyes will be turning to Rio, and wish all the competitors the best of luck.”
