Phil Ivey's matrimonial hassles highlight some interesting numbers

International professional poker player Phil Ivey's matrimonial problems are perhaps only of passing interest to industry observers, but this week they presented some revealing numbers connected with his association with embattled online poker operator Full Tilt Poker.com.

Apparently Ivey and his former wife have been embroiled in a messy alimony contract dispute, and late in December the ex-Mrs. Ivey filed court documents supporting her claim for a better settlement than that agreed in 2009, and revealing that the eight-time World Series of Poker bracelet winner received approximately $920,000 a month from FTP parent Tiltware.

The payments, which ceased when FTP ran into a DoJ brick wall on Black Friday, were split – the plaintiff alleges inequitably – $180,000 a month to Mrs. I, whilst Ivey kept the balance of $740,000 per month.

The documents include allegations that the poker pro made donations to the judge hearing the original settlement, suggesting that an element of favour and bias may have been involved in the original award.

Ivey has filed a response to the claim, alleging that the agreement was that if the monthly payments from Tiltware were to cease at any point, the portion of those payments allocated to Mrs. Ivey would also stop.
