Malaysia Internet Gambling Raids Continue

3/8/10 – Police in the Perak area of Malaysia have told local media that in the last sixty days alone 373 raids have been conducted on various premises believed to have been operating computerised gambling activities.
 
Perak CID chief Datuk Mohd Dzuraidi Ibrahim said 1 227 computer video gambling machines were seized and 104 people were arrested under Section 4B (a) of the Common Gaming Houses Act 1953.
 
Police are adopting a new tactic to literally shut down Internet gambling rings – they have sought cooperation from the Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) to cut the electricity supply to 96 premises believed to be involved in illegal Internet gambling.
 
"So far, the electricity supply to 19 premises involved has been cut, while the others are still waiting for TNB's approval," a police spokesman told reporters.
