Online gambling politicians remain in office
 
Currently attracting the attention of the online gambling industry around the world, early results from the US Mid-Term political elections show that two key figures have retained their seats.
 
Internet gambling champion, Barney Frank, a Democrat who has steadfastly promoted the cause of legalised online gambling in the United States won his Massachusetts seat beating Republican candidate Sean Bielat convincingly.
 
Congressman Frank (70) was formerly Chairman of the House Financial Services Committee and has been in the House of Representatives for three decades.  He pushed through the sweeping law this year to crack down on mortgage and credit card abuses and set up an independent consumer protection bureau after the financial crisis.
 
The Reuters news service reports that Frank beat Republican Sean Bielat, 35, a U.S. Marine Corps veteran and business consultant, who had pounded Frank about billions of dollars in federal aid given to government sponsored mortgage companies Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac.
 
With 87 percent of precincts reporting, Frank was polling 57 percent of votes to Bielat's 40 percent, a wider margin of victory than recent polls had suggested.
 
In related news, veteran Democrat Senator Harry Reid, whose views on online gambling are somewhat more ambivalent  was re-elected in Nevada.  Reid who is influential in the US gambling scene generally was formally the Senate majority leader.
 
As InfoPowa went to press, U.S. media were reporting that the Republicans have regained control of the House of Representatives whilst the Democrats have just managed to hold on to the Senate.
