Friday September 06,2013 : GIBRALTAR THE FIRST NATIONAL MEMBER OF ONLINE GAMBLING TRADE BODY
Online gambling jurisdiction signs up with the European Gaming and Betting Association.
Perhaps preparing itself for the forthcoming fight against the British government's proposed secondary licensing and point-of-consumption definition of online gambling, the internet gambling trade body Gibraltar Betting and Gaming Association has joined the European Gaming and Betting Association.
The trade body, which numbers many of Europe's leading remote gambling firms based in Gibraltar among its members, said in an announcement Friday that it has become the first national member of the European Gaming and Betting Association.
The GBGA has taken out an affiliate partnership with the EU trade association in the hope that the move will assist EU policy makers to learn more about online gaming in Gibraltar and allow the Gibraltar based remote gambling industry to input on important industry matters at international level.
GBGA chief executive Peter Howitt said of the EGBA move: "It represents an important milestone for our organisation and the Gibraltar operators that we represent. Partnership with the EGBA will allow us to work in tandem with the EGBA to better represent Gibraltar gaming operators in the EU on key issues relating to consumer protection, anti-money laundering and effective regulation within the context of an increasingly competitive environment.”
EGBA secretary general Maarten Haijer commented: “We are very pleased to be working with the GBGA. Not only does the GBGA represent a significant portion of the EU’s online gaming offering, but both organisations share the vision of a strictly regulated, cross border industry with high standards and consumer protection as priorities. We are therefore thrilled to welcome the GBGA to the fold.”
