Gold-Pay closes its doors to online gamblers

Posted 2.8.11 : With ripples still being experienced from the recent shutdown of eWalletExpress it appears that the enforcement authorities in the United States have again been active following news that payment method Gold-Pay has closed its virtual doors.
 
Starting towards the end of last week, Gold-Pay users started receiving an email which advised:
 
"Recently, as a result of pending legal matters, Gold-Pay was forced to suspend all gaming related transactions.
 
"We do not have a timeline for when those issues will be resolved or what the outcome will be.
 
"We do apologize for this disruption in our operations and we know this is both unexpected and unfortunate for everyone involved. You may continue to access your account but no account activity will be possible until the legal issues have been resolved."
 
Gold-Pay, which allows internet gamblers to notionally purchase gold and use that gold as a means of trade for goods and services, launched last May and has yet to gain major commercial traction in the industry, although it is offered by several sports betting websites.
 
Anxious players trying to communicate with the company reported a frustrating silence, and Gold-Pay officials did not respond to invitations to comment on the situation. This has led to widespread speculation that the company is perhaps the latest processor to receive the unwelcome attention of US federal authorities in the Department of Justice’s campaign against financial channels used by American internet gamblers.
