ONLINE GAMBLING REGULATORS TO MEET IN JERSEY

Tuesday, June 7 2011 :Minister will welcome GREF delegates to the island
 
Online gambling's newest regulator, the Channel Island of Jersey is set to welcome delegates to the Gaming Regulators European Forum (GREF) this week.
 
GREF meets annually in plenary session, but also hosts a number of smaller working group meetings during the year.
 
A Jersey government announcement said that Minister for Economic Development, Senator Alan Maclean, will welcome European gambling regulators to their annual conference which is being held at the Radisson Blu Waterfront Hotel on the island from 8-10 June.
 
GREF consists of representatives from gaming regulatory organisations across Europe and was founded in 1989 as an association of gambling regulators. Participation is only open to representatives from governmental or state-appointed institutions.
 
Their 2 main objects, as stated in its constitution, are to provide a forum in which European gaming regulators can meet, exchange views and information and discuss policy on gaming matters; and on special occasions and with the agreement of participants, represent the different views of European gaming regulators.
 
Senator Maclean will open the conference and said this week: "GREF is an important gathering of regulators whose members are at the cutting edge of regulation in the world’s most developed and competitive market.
 
"Having successfully delivered a new e-gambling licensing regime and launched the newly independent Jersey Gambling Commission, it is gratifying to see Jersey chosen as the location for this prestigious event."
