Californian Republican joins bipartisan support for HR 2267

Congressman John Campbell, an active participant in last week's House Financial Services Committee approval of a bill to legalise and regulate online gambling in the United States, has signed on as the bill's 70th co-sponsor.

Campbell is a Republican from California whose main priority throughout the mark-up for HR2267 and its 18 amendments appeared to be consumer protection. His contribution included the need for loss limits set by punters; the publication on internet games of the winning odds and other precautions against underage or problem gamblers.

Legislative action may slow down in Congress in the immediate future as politicians depart on the summer recess between August 9th and September 10th, and Congress adjourns for the mid-term general elections on October 8th, when all the seats in the House and a third of the seats in the Senate will be subject to the will of the electorate.
