Kansas Seventh local man pleads guilty to illegal sports betting charges

4/29/10 – The Kansas City grand jury probe into illegal online sports betting (see previous InfoPowa reports) produced another guilty plea Wednesday.

Gerlarmo Cammisano (56), who federal prosecutors described as “master agent” of the enterprise, pleaded guilty to operating an illegal gambling business. He also agreed to forfeit more than $200 000 and two laptop computers seized during the investigation, reports the Kansas City Star.

Cammisano’s brother, William, is among the six other men who have pleaded guilty to varying roles in the organisation, which worked through sports betting sites in Costa Rica and prosecutors claim handled about $3.6 million in bets from March 2006 until April 2009.

Cammisano and three other men were indicted by a federal grand jury in March with running the Internet bookmaking scheme.

He faces up to five years in federal prison and will be sentenced after a pre-sentence report is completed
