MICROGAMING POKER NETWORK TRANSFORMATION PROGRESSING

Tuesday, November 8, 2011 : Network management board's first meeting successful

The first Network Management Board (NMB) meeting for the Microgaming Poker Network (MPN) successfully took place on 3rd and 4th November in London, the company revealed in a statement this week.

The NMB is a body comprised of representatives from Microgaming and the primary operators on the MPN (see previous InfoPowa reports). It is presided over by an independent chairman, and industry experts consult to the board on ecology, player perspectives and the long-term revenue potential of projects.

The topics and decisions from the Network Management Board meetings are private, but insiders report that after two days of discussion and voting in the inaugural meeting, the NMB and all its functions and responsibilities are fully formed; the development roadmap is agreed; changes to the network marketing rules are underway and all operators and consultants believe it was highly successful.

A Microgaming spokesman said this week that the NMB is just one part of a much larger project with the goal of transforming the Microgaming Poker Network into an entity which is entirely composed of operators who contribute to the success of one another and to the network as a whole.

"This project has been running for two years, and other components include optimisation of the network marketing rules, strict enforcement of those rules, education of operators on network ecology, removal of operators that do not subscribe to the vision of the project, the introduction of a formula that allocates greater value to recreational players and the development of new features for beginner and recreational players," the spokesman said.

The results of the project are already tangible, with player values increasing by 15 percent in 2011 alone.

Lydia Melton, head of Network Games at Microgaming, says: "There is a renewed sense of optimism among the Microgaming Poker Network operators, especially those on the NMB. Whilst we view the formation of the NMB as the natural next step for the industry, it is clear that we are the only network willing and able to take that step, and we are all excited to be a part of such an important and essential stage in the evolution of online poker.”
