TWO MORE SPORTS BETTING BILLS FOR CONGRESS

12/23/2011 : New Jersey politician augments the attack on the PASPA

New Jersey Republican politician Rep. Frank A. LoBiondo appears to be planning additional political actions that will strengthen the tough stance on legalised online sports betting already initiated by state senator Ray Lesniak.

According to a statement from his office, Rep. LoBiondo is busy drafting two federal measures designed to either obtain an exemption from the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act for New Jersey, or more controversially overturn the act itself.

Referring to the November 8 state ballot in New Jersey, in which residents indicated a definite acceptance of sports betting, LoBiondo says in his statement: “Now that New Jersey has spoken loud and clear of their support for sports-betting, I will work in Congress to get legalization passed to give our state that right.”

Sen.Lesniak has already ushered through sports betting legalization at state level, authorising the state to take legal action against the PASPA if necessary. This bill now awaits state Senate approval in January.
