Paul Phua Pleads Not Guilty In Sports Case

Trial set for end of September
 
Wei Seng “Paul” Phua and his son, Darren Wai Kit Phua entered a plea of not guilty in Federal Court this week in response to a Felony indictment of transmitting illegal wagering information and operating an illegal gambling business .
 
Paul Phua, a Malaysian national and professional high stakes poker player is alleged to have run an illegal gambling operation taking wagers on the World Cup Football Tournament amounting to as much as $ 360 million.  Most of the wagers are alleged to have been placed by Asian punters.
 
Phua will face trial on September 29, 2014 as set by U.S. Magistrate Cam Ferenbach.
