Pokerstars Blocks Echecks For Some States

Posted 1/28/11 : No more eCheck transactions makes online poker even harder for US residents

The giant online poker company Pokerstars, which recently exited the market in Washington State, has now apparently shied away from other US states, reportedly shutting down its eCheck cash processing facilities to the residents of a number of other states.

The states involved are believed to include Nevada, New York, Florida, Indiana, Missouri, Kentucky, Illinois, New Jersey and Maryland.

The halt to transactions appears to be only in the area of eCheck; the company has commented that there are other financial instruments that can still be used by players, including good old-fashioned paper cheques, bank wires and Western Union, although the obstacles posed by UIGEA could create problems with these, too.
