UK government Asking for More Problem Gambling Donations

Supports call from Responsible Gambling Trust for gambling companies to "up their game".
 
The UK government's minister for sports, Tracey Crouch MP has backed a call by the Responsible Gambling Trust for UK licensed companies to honour their commitment to donate 0.1 percent of Gross Gambling Yield to combatting problem gambling.
 
The call was initially made earlier this week by RGT chairman Neil Goulden, who reminded operators of the commitment and appealed to them to "up your game" as the latest Gambling Commission figures show that voluntary donations in 2014-15 totalled GBP 6.5 million – well short of the target GBP 9 million.
 
In a speech, Goulding said:
 
"RGSB has set an ambitious programme of work for research, harm prevention and treatment and much depends on the industry contributing the amount requested by RGT – just 1p in every GBP10 of gross profit. Many operators are generous and go beyond what we ask but it is true to say a large number of operators contribute nothing and others short change the target.
 
“So today I am calling upon the trade associations, under the Industry Group for Responsible Gambling umbrella, to encourage operators to up their game in support of RGT. With your help, RGT has achieved a lot, but we have an ambitious agenda before us and we will need your support even more in the three years ahead.‎”
