The UK and land gambling group Rank plc has been a prolific fund-raiser for the Marie Curie Cancer Care Charity through 2010, raising GBP270 000 in an ongoing support drive.

The gambling group announced late December that it is to extend its partnership with Marie Curie  for another year having reached and overtaken its target of GBP200 000 two months early in 2010. The total raised as the year closes now stands at just over GBP270 000.

Rank owns Mecca Bingo, G and Grosvenor Casinos, and Rank Interactive. Its staff have raised the money in a number of different ways; from holding in-club events for customers such as Blooming Great Tea Parties, book sales and fashion shows; to taking on personal challenges such as cycle rides, sky dives and even playing a game of High Stakes Poker at the top of Mount Snowdon.

Fabian French, director of fundraising for Marie Curie Cancer Care said: “Rank Group team members and customers have done a sterling job, reaching their fundraising target for the year in just 10 months. They should be proud to know that the funds raised to date will help the charity provide 12 500 hours of Marie Curie nursing care".

2010 is the second year in which Rank has supported the charity through the efforts of its 10 000 employees and customers. Chief executive Ian Burke said: “We never cease to be amazed by the team spirit and generosity of both our team members and customers. I’m very proud of how our teams, both across the sites and in the support offices, have embraced this partnership and we look forward to continuing to raise funds for such a worthy cause in 2011.”
