Grospellier in $112 500 internet payday

Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier added to his already impressive collection of internet poker titles this week by taking down the PokerStars SCOOP $25 000 buy-in Heads-up event for $112,500.

SCOOP ended this week after another successful run, although the high stakes heads up event failed to attract sufficient entries to meet the guarantee. Nevertheless, Grospellier's win was worth a cool $112 500.

Only nine players ponied up the big buy-in to compete, which meant that Pokerstars had to carry the shortfall to meet the guarantee of a $250,000 prize pool. With only nine players the heads-up format called for seven players to receive byes in the first round.

Viktor Blom (Isildur1) was one of the most keenly watched competitors, but failed to progress beyond his first match against German player Also11.

The end came when Grospellier quickly eliminated the next best survivor, Canadian online poker pro Jonathan "Iftarii" Jaffe, adding to impressive career earnings that now exceed $8 million.

Other competitors who were paid out included Jaffe's second placing prize of $62 500, and Also11's and Swedish player Sussi Smith's $37 500 apiece.
