Mobile skill gaming developer launches beta version of a new multi-player offering
Mobile skill gaming specialist firm Skillz Inc., is exploiting the US legislative carve-out for skill-based gaming by launching a public beta testing version of a new multi-player, free-play and real-money tournament platform for US-based players.
The platform is currently available for Android-enabled devices and allows game developers to host cash competitions in 36 states in addition to free and virtual currency tournaments around the world.
“While mobile gaming continues to boom, game developers need innovative yet complementary ways to monetise their content,” said Andrew Paradise, the company's CEO.
“Eighty percent of mobile game revenues went to the top twenty development studios last year. Tournaments take mobile gaming to the next level by enhancing gameplay, making it more social and fun as players compete against each other. For developers, competitions translate into longer sessions, better user retention and increased revenues,” Paradise claimed.
Skillz new platform has content from nine other game studios, namely Gnarly Games, Rocketmind, Spooky House Studios, Rogue Rocket, DMW Design Group, Coeus Creative, Ilyon Dynamics, WSM and The Game Boss/Geniteam Solutions.
The games span a range of genres including sports, puzzle and arcade with players able to enter real-money tournaments for as little as $0.25.
