BETSSON ACQUIRES I-POKER NETWORK MEMBER

5/5/10 – The Swedish online gambling group Betsson has announced the acquisition of iPoker online poker operator Betfriends, an operation that boasts 4 000 active players, and also offers online casino and sports betting action to its customers.
 
The Betsson statement reporting the purchase did not give details of the consideration involved.
 
Comments from Betsson management suggest that the Swedish group hopes to boost the flagging fortunes of its online poker operations through the acquisition.
 
CEO Pontus Lindwall said earlier this week: “This transaction is a step in order to change Betsson’s trend in poker, as the poker business has shown a negative trend for some time.”
 
It is not at present known how the change of ownership will affect Betfriend’s network home, or the future of its management team.
