WIDE CALIFORNIAN SUPPORT FOR ONLINE POKER

Posted 1/19/11 : New survey shows that 60 percent of Californians favour legalized and regulated internet poker

A new survey conducted by Tulchin Research has shown that there is wide support in California for the idea of legalised and state-regulated online poker.

The study showed that more than sixty percent of all state residents favour the creation of state-run online poker sites to help with a worrying state budget shortfall of around $25 billion.

The research project estimated that Californian residents currently spend more than US$13 billion annually at offshore poker sites.

Two bills are currently in the legislative machinery. Sen. Rob Wright’s SB45 is an update of an earlier attempt to legalise internet poker and has the support of the Poker Voters of America, whilst SB40, the rather ponderously titled California First,

The State Funding, Job Creation and Online Gaming Accountability Act, has been launched by Sen. Lou Correa with the support of the California Online Poker Association.
