DANISH REGULATORS COOPERATING WITH OTHER JURISDICTIONS

Wednesday,  November 30 ,2011 : Alderney and Isle of Man known to have signed collaborative agreements enabling cross-jurisdictional approvals
 
Passing almost unnoticed over a week ago, and published with scant detail, the Danish Gambling Authority and the Isle of Man Gambling Supervision Commission signed a bilateral cooperative and information sharing agreement.  It is understood that a similar collaboration has been agreed with the Alderney Gaming Control Commission, and both will be formally implemented once the Danish Gaming Act comes into force early next year.
 
Industry observers have noted that the agreements may represent a major breakthrough in dealing with EU nations where national monopolies were formerly the norm. This is because it is understood that the detail includes provisions designed to make a common standard of licensing more attainable, such as mutually agreed requirements and access to gambling systems for regulatory purposes.
 
In effect these would enable operators who have successfully licensed in one of the signatory jurisdictions to more easily pass the requirements for licensing in another…such as Denmark.
 
The Danish Gambling Authority plans to hold a hearing for interested parties in Copenhagen on December 20 on the impending liberalisation of the market.
