Estonia Blocks all unlicensed Internet gambling activity

3/21/10 – Following the award of its first online gambling licenses, the state of Estonia has launched the downside of the legalization policy – a drive against sites without its licensing imprimatur.

The Estonian Tax and Customs Board has moved to block access to foreign gambling sites that do not hold Estonian licensing and still try to access the nation's online gamblers.

The ban is being leveraged through Internet Service Providers, who can be subjected to heavy punitive fines for not complying with the government's instructions to block outside gambling operators.

The Tax and Customs Board has provided ISPs with a list containing the names of the sites that should be blocked, which featured major operators like PokerStars, PartyPoker, Full Tilt Poker, Unibet, and Bwin.
The reaction of the European Commission should be interesting.
