Friday July 24,2015  : TRIBAL GAMING FLOURISHING IN THE U.S.A.

2014 GGR reached $28.5 billion.

The National Indian Gaming Commission has published figures on Indian tribal gambling revenues in 2014, revealing that the industry continued its upward trajectory, generating GGR of $28.5 billion…a 1.3 percent rise year-on-year.

The industry currently comprises over 450 gambling venues operated by or on behalf of over 240 tribes in 28 American states.

The California-Northern Nevada Region reported the best results last year with a collective y-o-y rise of 4.4 percent.

NIGC chairman Jonodev O. Chaudhuri commented:

“Overall, the Indian gaming industry remains stable. Stability comes from solid operations, strong tribal management, and effective regulation by the Indian gaming’s regulatory community, which includes the NIGC and more than 5,400 tribal regulators.

"Sound regulation is an essential pillar of support for the critical avenue of self-sufficiency and self-determination that Indian gaming has proven for so many tribal nations. Sound regulation preserves public confidence, protects tribal assets, and promotes a safe and fair environment for all people who interact with the industry.”

By way of comparison, the non-tribal US commercial casino industry generated revenues just short of $38 billion in 2014.
