Mariana Islands debate online gambling

House Bill 17-129 heads for the Senate after passing through the House

The Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, an Asian nation in the Pacific Ocean could become the latest internet gambling licensing jurisdiction.

This week House Bill 17-129 authored by Rep. Joseph M. Palacios and broadly proposing the introduction of an internet gambling regulatory and licensing regime, passed through the House of Representatives with a positive vote of ten to nine.

The Bill now goes to the Senate for further debate and presumably the creation of practical requirements for such a jurisdiction.

Rep. Joseph M. Palacios, “If this bill becomes law, we could regulate and tax Internet gambling and generate revenue. Right now, people here who gamble do not pay taxes. There's no tax imposed on their winnings.”
