Online Soccer Betting Ring Busted in Vietnam

Vietnam News reports Hanoi Police have smashed an online soccer betting ring and arrested suspected boss Nguyen Ngoc Quang (39) and six others.

Early information suggests Quang set up a betting system with a “number of professional gamblers” in anticipation of the 2016 EUFA European Championship. 

He reportedly opened a betting account on Bong88.com which capped betting at VND 2 Billion (US$ 89,600).

One of the other six arrested was tasked with taking bets and paying wins to gamblers for a salary of VND 7 Million (US$313) per month.

According to Whois, the domain was registered late last year by Enom Inc. R78-ASIA with the registrant listed comically as “Robin Hood”. 

Bong88 was formerly known as ibet888 which claims to have been active in Vietnam for many years. While there are many domains linked to Bong88, vnibet.net is listed as Bong88’s “official dealer”.

Hanoi Police investigations are ongoing.
