Back in February this year, the online gambling division of William Hill plc launched its first iPad app, and the popularity of that release can be gauged by the half a million times it has been downloaded by betting enthusiasts.

As 2012 ends, the company has launched a companion app that provides tablet access to football, horse racing and other sports betting.

A spokesman for the company, director of mobile operations Juergen Reutter, said Monday that  William Hill apps currently account for 30 percent of its online betting – and the new app is likely to boost that percentage further.

“Mobile betting is booming, with more customers using our service as a second screen solution to watch sport at home or on the move,” the spokesman said in a company statement.

Other Brit betting companies have their eyes on the tablet market too – Betfair has had an iPad app out for some time, along with Betfred, Paddy Power, Sky Bet and Bet365.
