Darren Hudson-Wood Charged in Betting Scam

Allegations of fraud by false representation put to Kesgrave man.
 
Darren Hudson-Wood (33) appeared briefly in the South East Suffolk Magistrate's Court this week and was charged with nine instances of fraud by false representation over an alleged online betting scam running into at least tens of thousands of pounds.
 
He was also charged with providing an online tipping and betting service which was not under the provisions of the Gambling Act 2005.
 
The defendant did not plead and was released on bail pending trial on February 2 2016.
 
The prosecutor said the accusations relate to the period between January 1, 2012 and December 31, 2013, during which Hudson-Wood is alleged to have duped nine people into given him money to gamble.
 
The money was said to be for investment in separate betting funds and that Hudson-Wood would match the money he was given by some of the clients involved in the charges. Complainants claim that he guaranteed to refund his investors' original stakes if he lost.
 
Some of the complaints are in regard to promises to buy shares in horses.
 
District Judge Sandeep Kainth said the large amount of money involved in the case meant it would have to be sent to Ipswich Crown Court, to which the accused was remanded on bail.
