Mixed Results in Poker Player Refunds

Payouts trickling through – but not from all indicted online poker firms
 
John Pappas, executive director of the poker advocacy group, the Poker Players Alliance (PPA) commented this week that players are reporting mixed results with regard to having money refunded from online gambling companies involved in the recent US Department of Justice action, estimating that $100 million to $500 million in funds could be involved.
 
In a deal struck after the crackdown, the Department of Justice permitted PokerStars and Full Tilt Poker to use its then seized domain names to facilitate the return of funds to online players with positive account balances.
 
While PokerStars players are understood to be receiving payouts and Full Tilt Poker is in the process of providing the same, although neither in any substantive form yet, Absolute Poker remains unresolved at this point.
 
The PPA concludes that it is hopeful that the less hostile Obama administration will pursue a course of licensing and regulation of online poker in the US as an estimated 10 million Americans indulge in the pastime.
